"Easy fix" she said and it may be, I suppose. Non sure if the other pedals are working if they're not so out goes the "piece of cake fix" in my mind anyway. I don't do repairs (adjustments) on many grands and then I'm request what should I be looking for with this trouble? I mean I have a pretty proficient grasp of what to expect and what I need to do I think only similar I said I don't repair many grands. Of course I tune them when they come up up but adjusting and repairing them....some but not much. So, information technology doesn't injure to ask those "farther down the road" of these type of repairs than I am. It could be a loose pin in the trapwork. You just have to follow the mechanism from the damper tray down to the pedal and see where information technology stops working. | | Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 321 Full Member | OP Full Fellow member Joined: April 2014 Posts: 321 | Hi Cistron. Pitiful, yes, movers moved it recently about 1,000 miles. Then when they assembled everything this was happening. She tells me when she engages the sustain pedal the rod is moving up just the dampers do not elevator. Tks, Gene. Duane Graves "Pushin 70...still haven fun I think..." | | Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 452 Full Member | Full Member Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 452 | Chances are it is a simple fix. Almost probable the rod/dowel connecting the trapwork to the damper tray is out of position (this is a adequately mutual issue I've see with recently moved pianos). If so, you'll need to remove the activeness and make sure that rod is in place under the damper tray (in that location is unremarkably either a felt bushing, leather pad or rubber grommet centrally located underneath the damper tray that the dowel should be placed directly under )and in its place on the trapwork. A simple 5 minute prepare, though. Just if it's not that, just retrieve things through logically and practice as BDB says - follow the machinery down, isolate each component and find out where it stops working. As well, make information technology a point to go comfortable with pedals and common issues on grands (choice upwardly Art Reblitz's book, or Mario Igrec's if you haven't yet), fifty-fifty if you don't service them that often. Adjusting/diagnosing pedal issues isn't (or shouldn't) exist an imposing or avant-garde skill to acquire. Last edited by adamp88; 10/22/19 07:21 AM. I admit it's a question that is irksome to the "PRO'S" but the real "pro's" fight the affliction of "cocky-dear" and accomplish out to those who have been to "that side of the table" less often. It wasn't the question that was irksome, rather that the question came from someone with your signature. I clicked on your website and this is your opening folio claim: "NB. I have been tuning and repairing audio-visual pianos since 2013. In that time I have tuned, repaired and serviced roughly 700 pianos from Full Grands to Spinets to Tall Quondam Vertical pianos and nearly everything in-betwixt, I suppose." Y'all follow that with: " I am absolutely looking forward to providing you lot with quality pianoforte tuning, repair, and regulation work " Yet you ask the original question? You are either misrepresenting yourself here or on your website. The nice people here accept to spend time answering you, giving you their expertise for you to basically profit from it. Don't you think information technology would exhibit less cocky beloved if you told the person you are intending to charge a fee that y'all oasis't any idea how the pedal works and that she would be better paying someone who did sympathise. And perhaps take down the conspicuously ludicrous merits yous brand on your webpage? Last edited by N West; 10/22/19 02:56 PM. Anyone who wants to get snarky with some other on here, or anyone who wants to brand information technology a habit to scoff others will not have a long tenure on Piano Globe. It is not the mode nosotros similar to do things around hither. And the OP is not the i that did annihilation wrong. The attempts to belittle him for asking a question are where the wrong occurred. Here's my question, can you charge people and advertise yourself as a certified piano technician etc. And not know how to expect at a sustain pedal rod? Someone'south getting bamboozled. Nick, ageing piano technician | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 2,974 2000 Post Club Fellow member | 2000 Postal service Club Member Joined: May 2007 Posts: two,974 | I take relatively piffling feel (some though) with grand piano action regulation, principally because people here won't pay to take information technology done. Many an 1898 Bechstein hither has NEVER had any regulation (and consequently they play similar a truck, merely people think that's how a practiced piano plays, because it'southward a Bechstein and Bechsteins are good [pianos....). And then I might well come in here and enquire an opinion about some grand regulation aspect that I take express experience with, even though I have Reblitz, Pianos Inside Out, etc etc). That doesn't mean to say I'm non a conscientious and conscientious worker. (And ask me anything almost birdcage pianos!) Learning should be lifelong, and willingness to call back about a task beforehand shows a conscientious attitude. Naturally we want to represent ourselves well on our corresponding websites. In that location is a fine line, perhaps, between 1) 'best face', 2) misreprentation, and 3) outright lies. I don't recollect information technology well becomes any of us to guess a forum participant'southward website in respect of i) and ii). Why....I'm really not certain. Perhaps I should have worded it differently somehow??? Gracious, some really get their long-johns lighted up over zilch. I hateful, if a fella can't inquire a dumb question now and then what'due south the employ in participating at all. I don't know most you lot but speaking for myself I find it tough out there in piano-country repairing and tuning and so I go hither amidst you lot, yes, equally an understudy quite often, but also for moral back up. Hearing your story is quite oftentimes very relatable to my own. Anyhow, all is well that ends well....I think!!! Nevertheless, the repair is now over on the infamous Mini Grand and information technology went quite well really. It was the sustain (right pedal) and in the move from Toronto it seems that a short dowel connecting upper damper lever within the piano to the top of the pedal rod underneath (visible) must accept fell out (could not exist institute anywhere) in the move. I had to brand the connecting rod and drill a hole in i end to support a narrow nail I used equally a back up pivot. All tolled it was about 4 inches long. I used a ane/2 diameter dowel. Took the mechanism apart underneath and placed the brusk dowel in and after some adjustment information technology worked similar information technology had e'er been at that place. Took just over an 60 minutes. Client was very happy and after tuning the piano and presenting the invoice she did an e-transfer then went to her wallet and gave me a $20 tip. I hateful, who could ask for more right. Many thanks to you lot all and you should know I consider it a particular privilege to receive, answer, or just sit and search and read your knowledgeable posts and replies.....all the best, Duane.
